UV and IR Optics

UV and IR Optics

CLZ Optical manufacturing optical lenses, except optical glass lenses, we can produces Silicon lenses, sapphire lenses, fused silica lenses. They are a good choice for Infrared optics and Ultraviolet optics.

CLZ Optical specializes in high-precision optical lenses for a wide range of UV (Ultraviolet) and IR (Infrared) applications. In addition to conventional optical glass lenses, we manufacture Silicon lenses, Sapphire lenses, and Fused Silica lenses, each designed to deliver superior optical performance across different spectral ranges. These materials are widely used in infrared imaging, UV inspection systems, scientific instrumentation, laser systems, and defense or aerospace optics.

1. Silicon Optical Lenses

Silicon (Si) optical lenses are one of the most commonly used materials in infrared optics. Silicon is a single-crystal material with low absorption in the 1.2–7μm infrared wavelength range, making it ideal for use in thermal imaging, night vision, CO₂ laser systems, and infrared spectroscopy.

Wavelength Range: 1.2 – 7μm

Refractive Index: ~3.42 at 5μm

Transmission: Excellent in mid-infrared, opaque in visible

Features: High refractive index, good mechanical strength, low density (2.33 g/cm³), and excellent thermal stability

CLZ Optical offers customized silicon lenses including plano-convex, plano-concave, and meniscus designs, with anti-reflective coatings optimized for specific infrared bands (e.g., 3–5μm or 8–12μm). These lenses are widely applied in infrared cameras, thermal sensors, and FTIR spectroscopy equipment.

2. Sapphire Optical Lenses

Sapphire optical lenses are engineered for applications that demand extreme durability and broad transmission ranges. Sapphire, being the second hardest crystal after diamond, provides outstanding scratch resistance, chemical stability, and thermal conductivity, making it ideal for harsh or high-pressure environments.

Transmission Range: 0.15 – 5.5μm

Refractive Index: ~1.76 at 1μm

Key Properties: Excellent UV and visible light transmission, high dielectric constant, resistance to chemical corrosion, and ability to withstand high temperatures

Because of its ability to transmit both UV and IR light, sapphire is commonly used in UV laser systems, defense optics, LED windows, medical instruments, and high-pressure viewports. For UV light transmission, sapphire is considered the best material after UV-grade fused quartz.

3. Fused Silica Lenses

Fused Silica (SiO₂) is a superior optical material with excellent transmittance from the deep UV (below 200 nm) to near IR (~2.5 μm). It exhibits very low thermal expansion, high laser damage threshold, and minimal birefringence, making it ideal for high-power laser and UV applications.

Transmission Range: 0.18 – 2.5μm

Refractive Index: ~1.46 at 589 nm

Advantages: Low thermal expansion, high purity, high resistance to thermal shock

Fused silica lenses are commonly used in semiconductor lithography, UV curing systems, laser focusing optics, and scientific research instruments requiring high stability and optical clarity.
